Posted on the government website itself

"Due to budgetary constraints, the Economic Indicators service (You must be logged in to see this link.) will be discontinued effective March 1, 2008."

Things to ponder...

1. This is a .gov site, not a .com that decided to close down due to lack of business or interest.
A government site, dedicated to delivering "daily releases of key economic indicators" being closed down for lack of funding, or for a lack of letting the public know what is going on economically.

2. Lack of funding, when has a spendthrift government ever shut down anything for a lack of funding? The last time a lack of funding caused the government to shut down anything was when Everything shut down during the Whiter House and Congress impass under Clinton.

Draw your own conclusions, but something doesn't seem right about all this.

Perhaps... here's two counterhypotheses:

Perhaps the economic situation on the ground is changing so fast that even the relentless army of gov'ment beancounters and bureaucrats can't tabulate it fast enough, then were shuttered for lack of published results.

Or maybe this is one of those gov'ment reorganizations, that said info (and employees who generated it) are now working for a different agency at a different website. Meanwhile some overworked web admin forgot to post a link to the new site.
