Yes, I have been wondering if/when this may catch up to me/us/someone hoarding pennies but After I took one of my casual twice a week cloth bank bagged hoards of oh…..$500 in zincies back to the credit union today to run through their De La Rue coin sorter The clerk came out with the usual helpful pile of thick plastic bags they use to fill $50 of pennies x 4 before the machine requires the bags be changed out for new ones and said to me: “my YOU have used up all of our bags for this month already all by yourself!!!”………………….I looked into the cute little rear less Vietnamese girl’s eyes and said;” and our coin club is so ever thankful for this branches contribution I will make note of it publically at our next meeting!” I hope you find the tax right offs valuable to you as well as the references I put out for our members to come open accounts here and deposit lots of change!” I had a big idiot smile ( like when Ralphie starred up at Santa Claus in “A Christmas Story” and Santa push him down the slide saying” no kid, you’ll shoot your eye out!” and the clerk swallowed and mispronouncing my name said “Thank you Mr. D******”. I am however concerned that when I come back next week the .60 wholesale cost per bag the credit union is paying for “me” may in fact come back to haunt me by way of a charge…………I am keeping my fingers crossed. I avoid concern by depositing all the deposits of zincs (and culls in rolls) into any one of my children’s accounts and am accumulating money for their college funds! I do, however have custodial accounts in which I have ATM cards attached to each so I can withdraw money later, avoid the surcharges for non-deposit and go to another bank/credit union for which I have an account or tow in similar terms. I find if you keep $1000 in each or any of these accounts they will “bend” and curve and look away for you so services like the bag cost is not thought of each time you go in to dump a load!

60 cents is still better than 7% coinstar charges. I would not be surprised if we start getting more bank charges for the machines later down the road. |

Tourney & Art That is strange, just last night when I deposited only two plastic bags of cents and asked for a "couple" of empty bags another teller (who was not cute or rearless) came up and asked if I wanted the phone number to the company that they buy their bags from. That was her way of saying I was getting too many for free. She said (also in her broken English) the bags are very expensive. I asked her "are they up to 65¢ each now?" She said she didn't know how mush they were, someone else told here they were expensive. Looks like another case of teller making up things to tell the customer. |

Chevy Chase Bank in Maryland has imposed a fee on their formerly 'free for everybody' coin counters. Non-customers count the first $5 for free, pay $3 for the first $100, and a percentage for any value over that. |
