I've recently started a Bahamas cent collection and wantlist for my wife (because I don't collect enough different world coins; I need another focus), and my books seem a bit incomplete on the information. I have a 2009 edition of the Krause 21st century catalog, but it only lists a cent from 2000 and 2001. I know that's wrong because I HAVE 2004 and 2009 Bahamas cents.
Does someone perhaps have a more definitive info source for these? Maybe the 2010 or 2011 Krause has more information??? What years were these coins made? I would assume every year... When did the coin shrink? Did the design change the same year? Are there any varieties? Are they still copper-plated zinc?
PS I would bet these turn up once in a while for hand-sorters. If you have some of them, PM me.

You can do free searches at Numismaster.com
It will tell you the KM#, the years minted, and the metal composition
You can't get the values without a subscription though.
go to You must be logged in to see this link. and choose the "Free Search" link in the upper right hand corner
For Bahamas cent I see:
KM# 59a Cent 1985-2007 Copper Plated Zinc
So your 2009 hasn't been reported to them yet. |

Shucks! I was quickly skimming the list of active topics, and I thought this thread was called "Batman cents." I clicked on it before I realized my mistake. I think I have a few Bahamian (???) cents that I've found, I'll drop you a PM, uthminsta. |

I was looking for some actual images online last night, and I saw a 2006 with the "3 starfish" design. I couldn't tell if it was the old size or reduced size of the 2009 I have. Here's what I know (visually confirmed) KM2 Bronze 23mm: 1966-1969. KM15 Bronze 19mm: 1970. KM16 Brass 19mm: 1971-1973. KM59 Brass 19mm: 1974-1985. Date moved to obverse. KM59a Copper plated zinc 19mm: 1985 until at least 2004. KM? Design changed from one starfish to three. KM? reduced to 16mm: at least 2009.
Hey, until now I hadn't noticed that there were two varieties of the 1985 cents. The only difference was composition and weight. Sometime during 1985, they were changed from brass (3.1g) to zinc (2.5g). Sound familiar?
EDIT: oh, duh. The difference is obvious. The brass ones are yellow; the copper plated zinc ones are "orange." Like the color of our cent. Anyone have either/both of the 1985 varieties? |

Oh, so the 2006 is still 19mm? Is that the design with three starfish or one?
EDIT: Or were both made that year? Maybe the one starfish design on 19mm planchet, and three starfish on 16mm planchet? I know, this seems like an awful lot of attention to detail on something that's not that valuable. That's just the way I am. And I have a sneaking suspicion I'm not nearly the only one. |

The 2006 Bahamas cent was the first year that three starfish appear on the reverse. To my knowledge, it is the only 19mm Bahamas cent issue with that design. |
