When I go into a bank to get coins I go straight to the teller in the coin room (cage?) because thats who is allowed to distribute coins to the other tellers. So two of my pick up banks have recently change staff and now have people who have trouble speaking and understanding english in charge of the cage. So I lost two source banks now because they only give me clean new coins and dont understand what I am asking for. There is always a line up at the bank so I dont feel like making the people behind me wait while I try to explain things.

At another source bank they had a whole box of silver coins and the lady said she was saving them for me but another teller took them for her husband.
It was a rough day at the banks. I think I need to open an account with another chain.

I just had to vent a little

I have that same problem with two banks here.
The people speaking non English can speak it if they want to.
they are put in there for that reason.

I think that's a bit much to think that banks specifically hand this position to a group of people that will be less likely to communicate with the patrons of that institution. That's just poor business sense.

However it is never fun when you don't get what you want. Frugal there are always more banks, they may just be a little further away from your home. You also have a wonderful chance to learn a little french here.

Basically you need to learn these key terms.

hello
Bonjour!

I would like to place a coin order for the following week
Je voudrais acheter des pièces de la semaine prochaine

my french is a little rusty but that's a start. I think it would be a fun way to immerse yourself.

Goodluck!

Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.

Don't worry about the box of silver. It is never the full box that you picture in your mind.

I know that 1 gram to one kilo of silver is still silver, but hey nothing invested....so nothing lost.

check out your other banks or as lemon Thrower says.....try different days/hours at that branch.

In some cases, those people are there because the area is high with a certain ethnicity group. It's easier for them to have tellers trained in the native tongue of a vast majority of their clientele.

Of course, beyond that, and we're gonna be getting into racial disputes and whatnot.

Very few people speak French as their native tongue in my neck of the woods. The Mexican dialect of Spanish is most prevalent. When I have language issues with workers, I just pull out the ol' "International Translator". I waive my wallet at them and say: "Hey, Amigo, DO YOU WANT TO GET PAID?!" Suddenly, they understand what I am saying real well! Hasn't failed me yet.

I doubt that will help FrugalCanuck. Maybe getting to know the bank manager will do some good? Take them out to lunch and let them know your dreams of how you will pay for bank loans with your profits, maybe? It is worth a try, eh?

Forget about getting a new bank frugal you either need to marry someone who works in a bank or if already married get you wife to go to work for one. My dear wife snags anything that comes into her branch and has the other tellers trained to bring her anything out of the ordinary they find. Of course it all comes home to me.

She's had some pretty impressive hauls over the years including the hall of fame haul which was 38 rolls of war nickles which costs me all of $2 a roll.

well my girlfriends mom works at the bank and my friends all seem to get jobs at the bank. It seems the banks are the only ones hiring these days. I went to school for a seemingly useless degree and the banks appear to love to hire those people. Smart people looking for a decent job. So now many of my friends work for banks.
My inlaws are visiting right now and as always they bring me silver or gold:)
