What would happen to copper prices if we experience an inflationary depression? If we entered into another war what would happen to the supply and demand for copper? If and when tshtf would small business still feel confident in the greenback? I like copper cents. Risk free and instant equity. Work for copper.
good question. What could happen in an inflationary depression is starting to happen now. Copper prices are starting to rise and should stay strong. During inflationary periods commodities tend to rise in value as people/investors seek to diversify their holding into tangibles. Paper is just a promissory note without any real backing. The government can and will print as many as necessary to achieve their agenda. If we entered into another war it may not have a big impact on copper initally as we(U.S. govt) plan these things well in advance and stockpile accordingly. If we went to war I imagine silver would be more in demand for war heads rather than copper for bullets. After a significant destructive ground war copper could gain as rebuilding began however it would depend on technology put into place at the time. If the use the bathroom hit the fan, as a small business owner, I would rather be in (survival) tangibles which would be in high demand. I would imagine government might institute martial law and price controls in which case cash wouldn't have much use because a black market would develop rather quickly. Goods would be hard to replace at any price
Look up the base metals charts, then go to the history charts for each base metal.
Nickel is a very important war metal for bullets and armor plating. It had a terrific spike just a few years back. So is titanium and the metal derivative of spent uranium fuel rods (it makes an extremely dense shell casing).
IMHO it will really depend on how bad the next war gets. It is just a matter of time before we have another war like the War of 1812, with invaders exploding bombs on our soil. That may happen before the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are over.
