I'm starting to ship pennies in $100 amounts in plastic bank bags, does anyone have any tips on how to reinforce a medium flat rate box?
thanks

I found using my glue gun to go along with the good tape has made me a few happy customers. You can find tape real cheap at those dollar stores. |

Fiber reinforced tape works wonders and you don't have to use a whole roll to pack your heavy box. Also, if you have a vacuum sealer, I would seal the coins in the heavy mill bags so they aren't rattling around loosely within the box. |

Use a lot of the reinforced packing tape go all the way around the box in all directions. But more importantly put the pennies inside a canvas bank bag or the heavy plastic bank bag that most banks have went to now. That way if a corner of the box does open up which does happen sometimes, even if you cover the box in tape, you will not loose any pennies. |

you can tape the bag taut over on itself so they don't move as much as well.
also it helps to have a lot of interior cushioning, like crunched up newspaper.
putting them in duplicate bags is a good idea. tyvek bags work great. they have these for free at the post office. |
Buying: Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00 copper cents at 1.3X wheat pennies at 3X

What will that do to our hobby once they do away with the flat rate box and it costs $50.00 to $60.00 to ship a box that now costs us a little over $10.00? |

Do most of you use flat rate boxes from the post office?
And does this cost less than UPS or Fedex foe the same sized box? Very curious.
Thanx..... |

Yes, we use the Flat rate boxes. Some of us use quite a few of them. In the old days they didn't have flat rate boxes.. they had flat rate envelopes.. you generally shipped a bag of pennies in two of those.. using lots of tape. In the even older days, they didn't even have flat rate envelopes. Back then UPS was the choice for shipping pennies.. being cheaper than USPS and with true tracking #'s.
They used to call me Mr. 3.20 at the post offices. I stopped by one a couple of years later to mail a regular package and the clerk behind the counter pointed to me and told the clerk next to her.. "That's the guy I was telling you about!" |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

Pricing out a medium FRB shipped about 1000 miles with 68 lbs of pennies, I am getting a total of 68$ without the flate rate savings. It would be about 62$ if you paid online. I wonder if those FRB's are a good deal for the people shipping pennies |

When the inflation gets that bad we can stand on the corner near a little brown bag and people will come up and give us cash and whatnot for the metals we have.
