I have seen several ads in craigslist for someone to come get a mobile home for free. I am just wondering if it would be worth it to try getting one and scrapping it.

Haven't done it, but given the condition most of the "free" units are in and from other demolition experience, I'd say it's probably not worth it. If it has other salvageable components in good shape (furniture, cabinets, appliances, fixtures) and you have a sales outlet for those, then you might come out ahead. If you are responsible for transportation and disposal of all the non-recyclable debris and are relying solely on the scrap metal content to cover the expenses, I think you'd have a hard time doing anything more than breaking even.

get a bi-metal hole saw a bit bigger than the screw heads. "Pop" each one like that, cut around the screw and remove the sheet metal so it's "clean". Leave the screws in the wood. Remove the pipes if copper. Wiring also. windows, hardware(brass hinges etc) and when you have it down to frame with the insidemetal removed, and the metal shell gone, strike a match.

Burn it to the frame and use cutting torches to seperate the axles/springs, and cutthe frameinto manage-able bites. you can also use a good strong magnet to recover the screws/little metal from the ashes.

Check with a local fire dept/volunteer fire depts to get a burn permit or offer to let them burn it for a training exercise.
