If I jog 5 miles or more along a busy road I usually find one or more lead wheel weights and one or more coins. Local storm drains go into salmon spawning streams or the Puget Sound. I've accumulated 1 1/2 large peanut butter jars of wheel weights - and kept them from affecting the fish.

Time to time I will be walking along the road and I always keep my eyes on the ground. I frequently see wheel weights, coins and brass keys. I pick them all up. I have a 5 lb coffee tub half full of wheel weights, and it will be a heavy sucker when it gets full. I will take it in with one of my loads, and when I get paid for it, free money.

I'm looking for lead melting equipment at garage sales(such as reloader or fishermen use). Then I'll cast the wheel weights as 1 and 2 oz spheres in fishing sinker molds and use them as 'bullets' in a sling. Where did Goliath get to? How do I carve 'catch' on the inside of a mold?

you can use a bbq grill for lead melting. Propane or charcoal!

I pay appr 40.00 for a 5 gal bucket full, which ends up being 80-100 lbs. Usually a good bit of valvestems in there too, those are brass cored.

I haven't melted in a bit, was looking for an appr .45 cal roundball mold for "slingshot ammo"

As the wheel weights have steel on them I think my yard would just give me steel price, I'll keep this in mind for next time!

If he is just giving you steel price, you are getting cheated. My yard knows fully well they are wheel weights, and they still pay lead price.
