ancient copper coin. It was black and encrusted when I found it....my local coin shop and was disappointed to learn from him that it's a fake
I would get another opinion. If it was in all cruddy like you said it has been buried a long time. Maybe it was counterfitted 1800 years ago. Still a good find.
I agree with cyberdan. You should get a second opinion. I once took a high grade legionary denarius of Marc Antony to a local coin shop. They told me it was fake, and then tried to buy it off me.. LOL. I actually collect these by legion and had bought this particular coin from an expert in ancients. Many local dealers are not familiar with ancient coins and will just say anything they are not sure of is fake to protect themselves from getting burned. You should take the coin to a major coin show with you where there will be ancient coin dealers. Even contemporary counterfeits have some collector value. Neat find!

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.
A NYC Subway token. Not only haven't they been made since 2003, but they're the size of a nickel.
I've also gotten bingo chips, a 2 euro cent coin, a 1 pfennig coin (German cent before the Euro), a 2 pfenning coin, and a South African Rand. Also found a plastic penny that said "Money" where the date should be. Crazy stuff.
