I love getting silver for under spot on ebay. I have had some pretty good scores lately.

all prices above are delivered prices..
Those are some of the deals I have scored in the last 60 days. Let's here some of yours..

How about 69 silver dimes and 1 non-silver dime for $20 shipped along with some nickels for $9.99 including 12 silvers, other old Jeffs, some buffaloes, and a Whitman nickel book. |

my best score on ebay... about 10 months ago,
was a roll of Barber dimes for just 15% over spot, but that had about 20 that were easily worth between $4 and $20 a piece!!! |

How do you find these? Are you searching for "junk silver", or just coins that people do not realize are silver? What sort of search do you do? |

I would guess the majority of these finds are poorly described on eBay and found with a lot of patience. |

This post got me thinking yesterday. Although I have scored misc coin deals under spot which is great, i wanted an amazing deal like 60 silver dimes for face lol. Anyway, i found this weird Chinese coin 5 min before auction end and did a copy past cool search of the title. Turns out the coin is like 25 grams silver. Coin written in chineese from the 30s. So i got it for 5 bucks. Two additions to the story. I later found out that these are highly counterfeited (although it states its genuine) and the seller had zero feedback. I figured 5 bucks was worth the shot and paypal can dispute a counterfeit. I will see how it turns out but I will keep my fingers crossed. I got to excited on ebay after reading this thread |

When I used to write for Financial Sense I wrote this article, which addresses this very subject: You must be logged in to see this link.
But my own best score? Probably the guy who sold me over 5,000 BU 1959 rosie dimes, and nearly 2,000 1954s rosies (of which he had had a few graded and PCGS judged them to be MS63 and MS64's) for the same price I had won a few individual rolls of these gems from him for. $69 a roll (he sold them to me off ebay to avoid fees)... which is only $1.38 a dime. The best part? I almost missed out on this... he also had another something like 450 BU rosies that he wanted to sell for the same price (inheritance from father and he just wanted the cash)... so I got those as well. That bunch included seven complete sets of BU rosies, every date, every mint mark, in the same condition as the others (MS63-64). Some of those dimes are worth upwards of $60-70 apiece. Nothing else I've ever snagged on ebay came close to that one. There are deals to be had on ebay, like the Barber score of Wolvesdad, but you have to look long and hard to find them... and there's lots of competition for them nowadays. |
Hoard now and hold on!

beauanderos, thanks for the article. One thing to mention, I think there are sellers aware of this. My reason to believe it is because I have seen some junk under "sliver" and wonder if maybe it is to trick them into thinking it is a deal when in fact it is not. |

I was trolling under the general "Coins U.S." category a few months ago, when I saw a 1909S VDB listed for $220.00 with only minutes left. The seller cited that it had corrosion, and was in Good condition. I ended up getting it for around $270.00! Why? Because the seller had it listed as a 1909S V D B; the spaces between the intitials caused it not to come up under a search for an S VDB.
When I recieved the penny in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised that it was actually in Fine condition, and had little corrosion. Finally that hole was plugged in my album. |

Last November I bought a 1900 $5 Liberty Half Eagle for $285. In the listing they stated Circulated but it looked stunning. So I sent it to NGC and it came back MS-64. In two weeks I sold it for $1450. |

Great deals guys.. I just love reading about some of the great deals that can be had. It inspires me to troll ebay a little more.
I have found a great source for getting silver for under spot on ebay. The seller owns a local shop who happens to be just a few miles from me and they allow local pickup. They charge a fairly steep amount for shipping which is what ends up giving me an advantage, they also don't describe the item in detail. A lot of the stuff tends to be obscure foreign silver but hey that is what the World Coins book is for.
Happy hunting all and good luck on the deals.. Keep them coming.. |

jtlee, that is awesome.
ANother trick is when a seller has many listings coming towards close, Shipping is a bit steep, BUT he offers good discount on combined shipping. If other sellers don't notice you can get some good scores that way by winning multiple auctions and then not paying too much for shipping. (the individual auctions go for less than what they should b/c people are factoring in the shipping....which you get combined/discounted) |

I love people who do combined shipping. I will always check to see if they offer it. If it is not noted in the auction about combined shipping I will email the seller and ask. Most of the time they do combine shipping and don't even mention it. |

My best eBay purchase was not related to numismatics.
I got a decent set of original chrome hub caps for my 1966 C-10 pick-up for $40.00! They usually fetch at least $120.00 for a set. |

I scored an AU 1896 Morgan and (5) VF Franklin Half dollars for $45.00 (less than melt) at a local Pawn shop yesterday. I am going back to pick up a 1909 Gold 20 Franc Rooster for spot today. I know this was not on ebay but I figured they were still pretty good deals.. |

I once bought a Chinese silver panda from ebay. The price was under spot so I jumped at the chance to have a Panda. Well, when I got it the round was obviously not pure silver. When comparing to another silver round, the weights were not the same (no scale to actually weigh it). When I contacted the guy he told me he got a whole shipment of them and that he would replace the fake silver with a round from his personal collection. He did send me another genuine round, but it wasn't a Panda.
I also scored a 5oz silver round for $50 back in early 2009 during the crash. I'm still stoked about that purchase. |

This is very cool.. I am glad to see so many people getting great deals!
I did pick up that 1909 20 Franc Rooster. They rounded spot down to $1200.00 even. I know it's not much % wise but any less I have to pay just makes me smile even bigger. |
