I went to one of my pick up banks to pick up my penny and nickel order.
This is a branch that told me they could not order halves.
I asked the merchant teller if she had any halves and she said at 1st no we don't order those but I asked her if anyone turned any in. After a second of thinking, she said that someone had turned in $4 to her the other day. I asked to buy them from her. As she was pulling them out of her drawer, I could tell that 2 of them were silver. One was a 1965 40% and the other one was a 1969 40% JFK.
I then asked the non-merchant teller closest to me if she had halves and she said she only had $2.50 in halves and I asked if I could buy her halves. She said she would gladly sell them. She said they were a pain because they don't even carry the wrappers for them. When I glanced at them real fast, I noticed one was a 1967 40% silver.
I asked one more non-merchant teller if she had halves and she had $3 worth. They were skunks.
All of them were more than willing to sell them because they said they were a pain. I told them I would buy any halves that they get turned in.
So out of $9.50 face in halves, I found 3 JFK 40% halves.
Not too bad and now I think they will gladly sell me any halves they get in.

Nice find on those 40's! Sounds like you're set up for next time too. You might consider leaving your phone number to let them know they can just call you anytime they get a few in(otherwise someone else might beat you to them) and that you'll be right down to pick them up.
