A classic bait and switch scam. Check out the S/H charge. I was disappointed to see this commercial on Fox Business.

At least the list the silver content per coin. That might get some people to go do some math and find out it's not worth anywhere near what the S&H is. |

Its nice to see you here Argent.
According to my coin book there is a version of the 1964 Kennedy with "heavily accented hair" that is worth $40 assuming it is in "PF-65" condition.

I called and asked if I could come pick them up to avoid the S&H charges. They said why not, and I went and got a truckload. I'm now selling them for the low low price of $5 each. Any takers?!!??? |

Sorry, strict limit of 4 per household. Unless you have two houses, then of course it's no problem.
But seriously, SHAME on them for doing that. "I'm Scott Tilson, and I'm a jerkwad. Why am I giving these coins away? Because I'm pretty sure... you'll (realize you got took and) come back... TO BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF ME." |

I don`t know if they send promotions, but I`am sure they do. he asked me ifI was a collector. he wanted to sell me some 90% silver, on a regular basis like once a month. I told him I didn`t buy once a month just when I had the money.

Beau, your font is coming up funny on the post.
Try writing your reply at the bottom of the screen/thread where HTML is off.
Also, I think they were asking you who "Austin" was that you linked to. They did not see the connection with the original "freerarecoin" post. |

The pictured coin is a 1965 P...I'll bury my head in sand if I'm wrong but there's no MM on the 1965! |

That's right... no mint marks from 65-67 on any coins if I recall. And 68-69 were only Denvers. |

Next up.. The ultra rare Silver Nickle!! Only made for a few short years from 1942-1945. These are the only nickles made by the United States Mint that contain real silver!! And I am giving them away free. Just pay $5.95 for shipping and handling for each coin! Act now supplies are limited and these coins will never be made again.. |

Other than being misleading and morally questionable, is there anything legally wrong with the business model here? |

There is probably nothing leaglly wrong with him selling way over priced coins. It's just a very sleazy and dishonest to charge $8 per coin shipped. Unless he overnights each coin seperatly by Fed Ex. I looked for US Coin Distribution on the Better Bussiness Bureau and nothing came up for comlaints. It may be that he is still eary in his scam and nobody has complained yet. Maybe we should all file a complaint on his bussiness practices. |

Generally companies that run these types of scams are careful to avoid making any false claims. However, this company may have gotten itself into trouble with its ad. They claim that these coins have ".1479 ounces of silver" and are "valued at $40." When they say ".1479 ounces of silver" they are identifying the 1965 - 1970 Kennedy (40% silver) half. None of these coins are valued anywhere near $40. They could be found guilty of false advertising.

Not really...like you said, he has to be careful. He didn't say "40 dollars as valued by XXXX" He could have found a 40% half on ebay going for 40 bucks (b/c stuff like that happens). Though you're absolutely right, no 40% half is worth close to $40. His URL is also misleading because it implies the 40%ers are "rare coins" which they certainly aren't, but once again "rare" is a relative word. Unfortunately, he'll be able to do as he wishes as long as there are greater fools to be found |
