Hey, for us kids, i was wondering what is your hoard size, and your age.

ill start, i just turned 15, and i have over 1,000 dollars in copper pennies, and about 500 ounces in silver, and about 5 ounces of gold, and around 1 ounce of platinum. these are all guesstimations, I'm not sure what i have right now i need to do an inventory.

Seems like an awful lot for 15 years old....Be careful.

Well depending on what you call a "kid", I'm 17 but I'm a sophomore in college. I don't have the free time that I would like to buy more, but I have a bunch of copper (don't really know how much). My main thing is silver. I just bought $25 face last week and two rolls of 40% halves this week. I mainly collect Morgans. I've gone to about 6 coin shows and always manage to spend over $200... I'm not quite sure HOW I can do that. I have about 50 morgans, 1 trade dollar, and a couple of peace dollars. All other silver adds up to about $70 face. 5 or so American Eagles. Lots of indian heads. Almost 20,000 wheats. Colonial coinage, large cents, flying eagles, barber coinage, three cent silver, half dimes, etc. I've been trying to get one of each type of coin. Oh, and a bunch of proof sets too. Sorry for the rambling...

Geeze, and I thought I had a lot for someone my age (19).

I'm proud of my hoard though, as with the exception of two silver rounds I received as gifts long before I started hoarding, everything came out of my own pocket.

<rant>

I started a business when I was about 15 and have run that ever since, I work for my family's business when needed, I hold a position as student leader of my university's advanced tech support, I do computer work for local folks, and I'm in the process of starting another website (there will be lots more about that on this site later). I also purchased my own computers (two laptops and a desktop I built), and my own vehicle (a '95 Tahoe).

Growing up whenever there was something I wanted, I had to buy it myself. I'm not qualified to offer parenting advice, but from my experience with others my age, that makes the transition to the 'real world' much easier. I have a few friends like myself that are used to working for their 'stuff' and have done just fine transitioning to college and onward, and I have a few that still expect their parents to get them everything.

</rant>

None of that was directed to anyone on here, but occasionally I become frustrated as the school I am attending is pretty pricey (I'm there on a scholarship) and has more than its fair share of spoiled kids. For example, a friend of mine recently wrecked the Lexus his parents bought him, so they bought him a BMW to replace it

Now that I got a counting machine I know how much my copper penny hoard is currently. I finished counting today. Before selling some in the last few weeks - $1,100 (Not including $50 wheats). Most of my hoard will be gone before month end if things go as planned. I will just have start a new hoard.

ive been really going for silver alot lately.
my copper goal is met ($1k) and havent searched a penny box in quite a while.
been searching all other denominations and getting skunked regularly.
i buy one really expensive coin for my type set a year, so its time to get all the change rolled up and to the bank.
im eyeing some early halves (1808 and before).
after i buy one or maybe a few ill relax a while and recoupe some cash then start over again.
i try to keep a stash of money ready for christmas time so the "silver santa" doesnt get away!!

To all the younger guys out there! I applaud you for collecting silver and copper early! I'd also challenge you to save it all until you are forty or older! Resist the urge to sell stuff, and trust me you will be glad you did. :-)

My goal is one brinks box a week plus some CWR weekly. I have averaged $35 a week since the first of the year. My overall averages are about 22% copper with 8 -10 wheaties per brinks box. I am also averaging a roll of 1982's for every $15 searched. CWR's are usually feat or famine. I have found two full rolls of wheaties(many in the teens and twenties) in one lucky find. I have also found two indian head cents. Like every else I am enjoying the hoarding immensely

To people that think their goals are too modest. Don't worry, it's not a competition. Crawl before you walk....

The year is coming to a close; are you where you need to be at to meet your goal(s) or will you be doing some last second serious sorting?

As for me--
Copper goal: completed. I am pushing the 1 ton mark. Is it ok if I join the "1 ton club"
nickel goal: Have a long way to go.
Wheat cent goal: completed.

My goals as they developed through 2008 where to:

1) Get a Ryedale. CHECK
2) Find a coin rolling machine. CHECK
3) Begin production. CHECK
4) Start hoarding. CHECK

So far I am right on target.

I should triple my hoard in 2009 I believe.

I am just having fun sitting on it I don't plan to sell anytime soon.

Pity my 5 year old son when he is 25. He will have a lot of gold, silver, nickel and copper to get rid of. LOL

Work pressures have cut into my coin habit, but I've done a lot in the last 10 months. I've sold and traded off a lot of Nickel (to make space and increase my silver stash), and I've got an undetermined amount of copper now.

I'm really impressed by the younger members that have posted - many of you are ahead of me with PM's. I was much like you guys as a child/teenager, so I feel a real affinity for you guys.
