I started sorting pennies a year and a half ago. I mainly sorted nickels, pennies, and halves. I'm a handsorter so when sorting pennies I look for some errors and varieties. I found 1999 wide A M penny my 4th month of sorting. I was trying to decide what to do with it and I showed it to my coin dealer. He suggested I get it cleaned and graded by NGC because there was a little corrosion mark and he said if I left it, it could get bigger. The total cost to me was $60 but when I got it back it was graded MS 64!!, and he told me that means its worth around $400!! When I found this penny I was thinking about stopping sorting. I had just finished with my 10th half box skunk and was not having much luck with nickels. This find brought my spirit up and Im still having a great time. I also got a little article published in Errorscope about it. Just a little reminder that there still are great finds out there so dont lose hope

Happy Fourth of July and Happy hunting.
Sent it to NGC for grading and cleaning? Do the TPGS clean coins? If they did, it would stand to reason that they would know the best way to do so without damaging the coin in any way. Usually cleaning a coin drops its value. Are there any coin services companies that will clean your coins for a reasonable fee?
