I've been reading a lot today about the Gulf oil disaster. I'm sickened and saddened, yet not at all surprised at this government's failed attempts at remedying the situation.
Just after the Haitian earthquake, I was sickened by the beggars and the braggards going on and on about sending $10 to help the victims. BUT. You don't hear a goddamned thing about helping those who are and will be affected by the oil spill for decades to come -- our fellow Americans.
I've decided to do my small part. I am searching now for a legit charity that is directly helping my fellow Americans and/or the sea life caught up in the toxic muck. All of the Zincolns I amass each month will be cashed in at my local TD Bank. I will send that cash to the proper charities.
I'm not in anyway trying to pat myself on the back, but maybe get the idea out that and some other members of RealCent might do the same or more. Plus, it beats texting $10 to the Red Cross where only about $1.50 went to help someone in a country that can't help itself out of a paper bag. But, that's just my thing.
Is anyone else in? Anyone have any better ideas?

Good idea, but I see a problem. The zincs are "recycled" for more unsorted coin by most of us. This would put a lot of us out of business. Maybe a few of the zincs could be donated. Otherwise, great idea.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |
