I found a 2006 South Dakota quarter in circulation. It does not have the brown "sandwich" look on the edge. But it's a P mint mark so it's not a silver proof. Any help? What do I have?

Yeah... I certainly hope so, but I doubt it. I've never found much of real value before. I did recently find a 1933 cent, which is worth maybe a buck. And a 2009D dime... but never anything to write home about.

All silver proof states are S mint.

Right. And there were no "silver uncirculated" sets... just silver proof. That's the way I understand it.

Don't you like all of the new flavors of Oreo cookies they have now. Maybe someone at the mint thought that 'brown' sandwhich looking...cookie looking...Oreo...peanut butter....cracked it open and ate the peanut butter then put it back together to eat later with his or her sippy cup of milk? They do drug test at the mint...right?

Hello. At a local coin show recently, a few people brought in some state quarters (don't recall which years/states) that did not have the copper visible on the reeding, and they had the look of what "Canadian" quarters would look like when seen on their edge. At this show was Randy Campbell, a highly respected coin grader for ANACS and a columnist for Coin World. His explanation is that it was from "improper alloy mixture" and they do not command much of a premium. Still, its neat to find one, as I know some who have, yet I myself still havent found one.

Exactly, CoastalEdge! It totally looks like a Canadian quarter.

This was the part of the story I didn't like. Oh well.

I have one just like that; looks like a canadian qtr, with no sign of any copper. 2004-D Florida.

unlikely but weigh it.

also, if you drop it, silver makes a different sound than clad.

Buying:
Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00
copper cents at 1.3X
wheat pennies at 3X

Actually I have found one of these as well it turns out that these are part of a platinum coated set you find from places like the franklin mint. they also do these in a gold plating as well. you can get a set year fairly cheap and they do not command much of any premium. I too wish they were offmetal errors too but harsh reality is that they are just layered in another metal to make them look pretty.

by the way mine is a New Hampshire one. It has what looks like an orange peel look on the obverse and reverse. If yours has the orange peel look then it is definately layered.
