I stumbled onto/into this website quite by accident last week and within a few minutes realized that others exist that share my "passions" for saving pennies. Perhaps, the use of the term hoarding is more accurate although I do assemble lesser quantities of other currencies.
Actual hoarding and separating pennies, for me, began about 30 years ago. I am not really sure why I did but it seemed a natual course of endeavor.
As the years waxed and waned, so did my interest in hoarding coins. Lately, I have experienced a desire to hunt down those elusive coin errors and fortunately I have some thousands of unsearched pennies for a starting point.
The point to all the above being how great it is find others of like mind. I will need help as my numistimatic abilities are weak, and under magnification coins appear to have many flaws whether created by the mint or afterwards but I am researching like crazy and already these forums are of great help.
Thank You All,

now you need to sort the coppers from the zincs, dump the zincs at your dump bank in exchange for FRN's, and then take the FRNs to your source bank and get some more pennies. |
Buying: Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00 copper cents at 1.3X wheat pennies at 3X

Welcome to the forum! Probably not a accident you found this wonderful forum, everything happens for a reason. If your interested in errors the cherrypickers guide is great. The $40 price is a big hit to the wallet but IMO is worth every cent. It paid off for me already, but there are tons of internet sites that can get you started.Ken Potter has a good site at You must be logged in to see this link. check the error page out and he has for sale there a book called Strike it rich with pocket change.I have not read it but spoke to folks who have and heard its good. I'm sure others will chime in with better error websites,I lost alot of the better links I had bookmarked. This is a great forum, everyone is helpful and alot of very knowledgeable people here.Good luck in your searches and again welcome. |

Do I understand correctly that you intend to search through your own stash first for errors, etc, before you plan to start searching new 'wild' cents?
Many on the forum would say: if you've already got a stash, keep it where it is, start sorting pennies from the 'wild' (mix of zinc and copper) and get all the copper you can at the moment.
Then later, much later when you have time and the copper in the wild dries up, then sort through your original stash for any hidden treasures you might have. |

Thanks everybody,
PennyPauper, as soon as you recommended 'Cherrypickers Guide', I checked Amazon and others where you can purchase a copy for $23.00 or less so I know where a little cash is gonna go this weekend.
Good idea Wolvesdad on acquiring raw coins and saving the stash but oops!, I jumped the gun. I pulled 6 rolls of '92s and thought surely I would find a "Close AM" but I quess they titled its availability 'extremely rare' for a reason.I did find about 20 small die cracks(usually from the rim to the Lincoln Memorial) -- is that a unusual amount for the number checked or is that about right?
Rosco, I live in the tropical state of South Carolina about 70 miles from Mrytle beach.
And for Rosco, of course I know about my initiation rites - I have the rite to remain silent, I have the rite to legal representation and so forth --is that what you mean? At any rate, gotta go as I need to rite my next reply to this forum.
Thanks everybody for the welcome.
