Silver (and gold) are doing great today... but (funereal music) tomorrow is options expiration day for June. It wouldn't surprise me if the PM's mysteriously plunge, guided perhaps by the evil hands of Snidely Whiplash I mean JPMorgan and their naked shorts cronies

Should I sell? I bought a ton of silver at about $12 spot, and I'm thinking of ditching some of it. I don't know why. Maybe because I don't want to watch it crash again. Good idea, bad idea? I have a monster box of eagles (2006). I've been pondering selling for a long time. Thoughts?

It depends. Do you have an idea of what you would do with the CASH you would receive for the eagles? Sometimes, if you don't have a better idea for the CASH, it's best to sit tight with your current investment. If this was a trade, instead of your core physical bullion that you intend to keep for a long long time, perhaps a better vehicle for speculation would have been paper GOLD, paper SILVER, or even mining stocks.
Anyway, if this was a trade for you, you could send your box of eagles to Bullion Direct and just put it into your account. You could keep it there indefinitely or sell it later. |

Darsemnos... I would hold for the long term, the price will go up multiples from here. It's just that I've come to expect JPMorgan takedowns on expiry days. Just watch! That said, I agree with NIA assessment that silver will be the investment of the century, take the time and go read CopperCatcher's post on inflation (it is long) under economics... and then you'll be glad you bought, and keep, your monster box. Wouldn't be surprised to see those eagles at thirty bucks a pop by end of year, fifty year after, hundred year after that, two hundred year after that... and so on. |
