I know that the common date wheats are post 39's and are valued a little lower than pre-40's but why when searching do i find 95% commons? I think i should find at least 30% pre-40's even if they are mostly 1939's one could argue that people pull the pre-40's because they're worth more but if they're already pulling some wheats why not pull them all?

So your question is, "why do I keep finding common dates?"

Answer- "because they're common."

Or a little more precisely- look at the mintages from the 40's and 50's wheats as a percentage of the total- if I recall correctly between 90-95% of all wheats were made during this period. So, it's not surprising that you find 95% wheats from that period.

about right on the percentage, in any given 100$ lot, i will get an avg of 29 wheats. sometimes there are no pre40, other times i might get 5.

I consider myself pretty lucky with wheats....I average around 10 per box, and at least one of those if not two or three is a pre-40. I hit a box today with about 30 wheats, 5 of which were pre-40. Folks out here are still cashing in grandpa's coin collections I guess!

My last few boxes I have been getting lucky also, sometimes finding 2 or 3 wheats in a roll. I usually am good for about 25-35 wheats per box, and about 80% are all commons. I have been getting lucky lately though and finding some teens and 20's and just the other day pulled a XF 1907 IH...

Just got to be patient and keep sorting... Always when you least expect it.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

If pre-40s are so much harder to come by than commons why don't they demand a larger premium?

They do usually.

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

By larger premium I mean larger than they already do. Usually they only get a couple of cents extra but shouldn't it be more if you only get them 5% of the time?

because there is a greater amount of people who collect wheats in general then rarer wheats. most people will pay $2 a roll for commons, far fewer will pay $5+ for pre 40's
