So I got to work a little while ago and one of my coworkers was ranting that WE'RE OUT OF COFFEE!!! So I came to the rescue with my ever-present can of You must be logged in to see this link. (which I'd planned on brewing anyway) and smirked a little and said to her, "Y'know Sue, you can get a can of this stuff for just $3.38 at Walmart"...not mentioning, of course, that I have more than five cases of Cafe Bustelo at home. She ranted on, "But the company is SUPPOSED TO SUPPLY US WITH COFFEE! It's one of the few perks we have left!!"
Quite frankly, spending less than $4 to have a few days' worth (I drink more coffee at work than I do at home--but I drink a lot of coffee at home, too ) is well worth the price of staving off caffeine-withdrawal headaches (which I only get when I withdraw from caffeine, which rarely happens ). Seriously, how much of a burden is it to buy your own $4 can of coffee??? These are the same people that those of us who are prepared will have to fend off after TSHTF. Jim Rawles describes such people as the You must be logged in to see this link..
Anyone else have similar encounters with people?

I really pity the people like Sue. They must feel like they're in a prison, dependent and under the control of others.
They feel entitled, but you can never get what you want.
It takes work and effort to achieve self-reliance. It's a process that probably never gets to 100%. But self-reliance is satisfying.
That's what's so annoying about the gubmint. It seems as if they are trying to make self-reliance more difficult
Edit: btw I really am not sure how to (in what context) do we use the smiles. What does this mean? |

The ones that bug me are the ones at church that will buy some little item maybe a $2.00 or $3.00 item and then turn in a bill for it to get reimbursed. Usually they are the same people that put a dollar a week in the collection plate. And it is not because they can't afford it. I see them eating, drinking, and smoking it up during the week. |

I turn in my receipts (not for a couple bucks though) at church and then donate back the money. That gives me the tax deduction.
What amazes me are the fools who think they are entitled to post whatever they want in a private forum and complain about the people that crush spammers, help people get registered and pay to keep the ads away. Absolutely amazing the sense of entitlement some people have. |

Sorry, it's been a tough day. I'm alluding to people that like to cause trouble here. If they do not like realcent the way it is, well there are millions of other places to hang out online. Oh and Nickelless has a great point too! |

I hear ya Nickelless, coffee in my office was paid for from the proceeds collected from the soda machine (yes the soda drinkers were supporting the coffee drinkers habit) until the soda machine was outsourced to a vending company. I put a sign up at the coffee pot saying that it would be supported by donations from the coffee drinkers. The weeping and wailing was insane, and the downright indignation of not having coffee or a stir stick was shocking. I had one supervisor that was so furious over there not being any stir sticks that he had a melt down. I manage the coffee kitty, and buy supplies as the funds are available, I told him to donate some cash or go buy some stir sticks himself. I am about done with it all, and am planning to keep a small pot at my desk and brew my own. |

Would you complain if the company shorted your paycheck by $4 every week, or said hey, we're taking back one of the holidays we agreed to give you? Or would you suck it up and say "oh well, I wasn't entitled to that."? If the company promised coffee every day and goes back on that promise how is that different then if the company promised you a certain hourly wage then went back on that promise?

The company hasn't "promised" us anything. Coffee is just provided as an employee perk. So since nothing is "promised," I bring my own coffee just in case. |
