The price of copper is all about the preception of the strength of the worldwide economies. Copper is now at $2.81 and falling as the hint of a worldwide double-dip recession looms. How much lower could it go? Look at the chart below for the 5-year perspective.
Current melt value of a US copper today is 1.87c. At near $1/pound copper, the level at the copper bottom in March 2009, the melt value would be less than 1c. Selling at 1.2c-1.3c or less makes it kind of tough on the sellers - it's a lot work that some sellers may not want to bother. However, as buyers find sellers who must or want to sell at these levels, it seems like a pretty good deal. |

Would anyone agree when looking at historical price charts that copper's range until 2004 is between .5 and 1.5 per pound and that it should return to that historical average eventually? Or do you have reason to believe that it is now in a new range. I am looking for calm coherent replies backed by experience or reason. The implication is if it is likely to go and stay lower cu penny hoarding may not be a profitable venture.

We have been made aware that copper could drop an only be worth face value. I'm comfortable at a hoard of $450 Copper to go with the few Oz of Silver we own. I will buy Gold an Silver on the dips as it will go back up. In the mean time I"ll keep sorting to get it at face on the coins. |

| We sure are progressing slowly, but I believe that copper pennies will always be sold over face. Folks know they are solid long-term and they will remain in demand. I honestly check the copper price maybe once a week, it really isn't of concern to me at this point. |
