Hi. I have approx. 15 '09D dimes that I have set aside to save. Are these worth saving? I still haven't seen any 2010 coins, nor have I seen any '09 nickels. These '09 dimes have a listed mintage on the U.S. mint web site of just over 49 million, well under the amounts minted in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Just wondering if I should save them for future numismatic value. Also wondering the same thing about NIFC halves. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

You're asking good questions. Checking the mintages is one part of the equation. They are certainly worth saving, because they are kinda hard to find, but the question we can't answer is this: will demand for them increase over time or taper off? Will a coin that is worth (guessing) a buck now be worth ten bucks next year, or a quarter?
NIFC halves, seem to sell for a slight premium. SLIGHT. But someone else here would certainly be better to answer this question than me. I don't sort halves much any more, since I was only getting skunks... |
