The story/start of my obsession.

Summer of '84. My father had been unemployed for about a year. He was given a huge homebuilt swing set from a neighbor. We were digging holes to set the legs in the back yard, after one of many scoops of dirt, we noticed a cent in the ground. After a little rubbing my father says its an Indian Head! With some soap and water, we see 1908.
The house was built in 1865. Turns out we were digging in an old outhouse site. An eighth of an inch lower with the shovel, we would have missed it.

I've been lurking for a couple years on and off, sorting for 20+ years. Since I started posting this week I thought I'd share this. I decided to register after Kurr unveiled his Silver A&M 1g pieces. I want one of those (Need to get my 10 posts, lol).

Thanks,

Get the metal detector out! Clean that place out.

Sh*tty cent, perhaps. Definitely get out the metal detector. There's a county park about half a mile from me. The old stone farm house that stands there is all fenced in, but the outbuildings and outhouse are well outside the fence, same with the area I think they used to dry their clothes on a line. I walked around and didn't see any evidence of a hobbyist being there recently. I've been wanting to go back and hopefully find a long lost stash of ass pennies!

From what I've heard over time all the crap turns to dirt. Many people dig up those sites and find old bottle worth a few bucks. On the show Hunt for Amazing Treasure with Kristin Gum, they excavzted one. Might be worth digging up.

Are you throwing that out?
