I usually just hand sort pennies, but on a whim I decided to pick up a Brinks box of Nickels the other day. On my second roll, I pulled a war nickel and almost hit the roof! I ended up pulling 3 war nicks and 2 well worn buffalos (on one I can barely make out a "20" on the date, and the other has the date completely worn off). I imagine this is an unusually nice haul, but regardless I think I'm hooked!

That's a very good box! Try to find a source for $200 bags- they have all kinds of foreign and fun junk to pick through.

I also normally get pennies but today I got my first box of nickels today and I also found three war nickels. How many per box do you guys usually find in a bank box?

1 per box.

one war nick per 1-2 boxes.

That has been my luck.

I've only found two buffalo nickels in my almost two years of searching coins and just the other day a friend gives me a beautiful 1920 buffalo nickel that he had just gotten in change here in Central Florida. SO, I guess, as usual, it is the luck of the draw...and my drawn hand usually isn't very good.

War nickels have been exceedingly scarce here too. Since I began putting my nickels into my nickel album around January, 2010, I have only found ONE war nickel in my searches. Of course, that one nickel filled a spot in the album, but it is really bare for the remainder of the war year nickels but I am determined to fill this album doing it with nickels I find searching...I like the sound of filled the album at face value.

Sounds like many of you have had much better luck in the war nickel and buffalo areas. Continued success.

Enjoy your coin searches, everyone.

I think I have found all the Jeffs 38-61...I haven't tried on the later ones. I might be missing a 55-P though. I like that idea of filling albums for almost free!
