I'm waiting to hear back on a Craigslist listing on weights that someone is giving away for free. Depending on what they makeup of these are--I haven't seen a picture of them--would they possibly be worth scrapping?
If you manage to get the entire apparatus, try and see if a local wielder will buy it off of you as scrap. Box steel and angle iron is always in demand by these guys. Get a ton of requests from some wielders and metal craftsmen I know that ask me if theirs any spare steel from my job.
I haven't heard back on this Freecycle listing, so maybe this one's a no-go. I'm keeping my eyes open for other scrap, though. Dang that I don't have a pickup so I could get other scrapping opportunities that come up from time to time.

some of the cheaper sets are plastic on the outside and concrete filled.
Buying: Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00 copper cents at 1.3X wheat pennies at 3X
About a month ago I found nearly 400 pounds in steel dumbells at the curb . I sold them to a friend for much less than he could have bought them for, but I still did well .
