I'm hope for the holidays, and I didn't bring my Ryedale with me. I didn't think I'd have time to sort...hahaha..who am I kidding? I'm addicted.

Christmas Day totals, all sorted by hand, the old-fashioned way.

$50 Brinks-wrapped:
34.1% copper
2 wheats
2 zinc Canadians

Whew! Can't wait to get back to my Ryedale.

Of course....you always get the wheats. I can't complain, though. I do have more copper than I did yesterday. And that 90% half more than makes up for a lack of wheats. Have you sorted your machine bags yet? I'm very curious to know how they panned out.

Christmas day sort:
5 boxes CWR pennies - Actually, there were no boxes involved.. it was 250 loose rolls that I hauled out of the bank in my bag yesterday. Between these and the nickels I got at the same time that bag sure was heavy!

3166 Copper
2 Canadian (1 King, 1 Queen)
2 different 2 Euro cent pieces (1 from Spain with a building on it and 1 from somewhere else with a great looking sailing ship on it)
1 neat looking nickel coin with St George slaying a dragon on one side and 50 Koneek on the other - Will have to post it in Cerulean's whatsit section and find out what it is.
And of course.. 11 darn dimes.
25.33% - Quite a bit better percentage than I usually get.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

or about 645 coppers per box

I will start making up the trophy. I think you need to reweigh or recount those copper cents though.. at 900,500 copper cents you should be a little over 3 tons.

Not all of those 900,000 are US...there is a lot of those light weight Canandian Coppers (2.5g).....my counts are aprox...just based on weights which are accurate. I figure about 148 US/lb and 164 CAN/lb...

You can decorate the trophy with all those 90% and 40% halves the silver fairy delivered for Christmas!

BTW: I'm not a coin collector....I'm a metal collector...., so I took a few of my 40% Kennedy's and cleaned them up with silver cleaner...boy are they beautiful...they'll all get melted anyway...wish all my 90% silver haord looked like that.

Does anyone else clean their 90% / 40% "Junk"...they have no numis value..

got through another $50 after work today

1692 copper
3115 zinc
150 82's
30 wheats
13 canadians

1692/5000 = 33.84%

also a little side story. my girlfriend was going to the big city to see her sister for the weekend. i thought, hey! great way to get rid of some zinc in the coinstar. i gave her a couple addresses of ones that gave e-certificates and loaded a couple coffee cans full into her car. well she moved them into the trunk and somehow forgot about them. i failed to remember she drives like its nascar. so long story short i just spent a half hour cleaning pennies out of everywhere. i bet if i played it right i could guilt her into buying me a couple boxes. hmmmm :)

I have a bunch loose in my trunk too. Some of them rattling all over and some still in rolls rolling around. I go out and clean out the trunk when I get low on boxes of pennies to sort. Next time put them in coin bags and tie them off with rubber bands.

Pretty good week for drive-bys. In addition to the normal group of pond pennies the magic fountain yielded up a couple of quarters and a couple of dimes this week. The ecomomy must be getting better. Got 146 CWR pennies on Thursday and 59 CWR nickels, 15 CWR pennies on Friday.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

No sorting done today, but did a little buying. Almost got skunked on buying. Must be the holidays. I went to six banks, and was only able to get a total of $61.50 in cents. Usually I can usually walk into these banks and pickup cents without problems.

My father let me go through the jar in which he tosses his pocket change, and exchange his coppers for my zincs.

$17.35 in pennies
44.4% copper
12 wheats
1 king (the only Canadian)

I also found 1 1964 silver dime.

haha. No, he let me have it for free. My father grew up using silver coins, so seeing a silver dime, while unusual today, isn't really a big deal to him. He marvels that I get excited over something that used to be so commonplace.

I hope that is what happens some day with my children (that I don't have yet by the way), when we look through change and find those funny copper cents.

I sorted the $7 that I could get from one of the banks I went to today. Two first time coins for me.

$7 CWR
201 Cu
2 Cu CA
1 non Cu CA
1 wheat It is a '49 S. Lowest mintage in the 40's or 50's besides the '55 S.
1 '83 Zambia 1 ngwee*. There is an anteater on the reverse and it is smaller than a penny.
1 '98 British one penny*. It has a portcullis with a crown on top with chains dangling from each side on the reverse. Doesn't say Britain on it or anything, nor does it say Canada. Assuming it is British due to aging bust of queen of front. It is larger than a penny and I could tell something odd was in the roll before I opened it.

After all that: 28.7%

Woohoo! Stopped by the bank today to pay my mortgage early so I could get the interest write-off for this year and they had 80 customer wrapped rolls of pennies for me. They were glad to get rid of them. It has been a very merry Xmas season for me. Happy New Years everyone!
