That's what I do often...stock up for later. I have boxes aplenty I haven't sorted yet. Can't wait!
Yeah, me too!
Always a good idea to keep a few unsorted boxes on hand for those times when you get skunked at the bank. |

Would be nice to have a machine for this purpose, but funds are low in the winter.
THIS IDEA SHOULD BE PATENTED UNDER A DIFFERENT PURPOSE

BIG BONUS IS THE SHAPE OF THE "CLAWS" DO NOT DAMAGE THE CENTS (IF YOU CARE).
USE: CLIP OFF BOTH ENDS AND IT UNROLLS PERFECTLY. IF YOU CHOOSE TO YOU CAN REUSE THE PAPER ROLL USING THIS METHOD, AS THE TOOL ONLY REMOVES THE SMALLEST AMOUNT AT THE VERY ENDS. TRY IT!!

$100 sorted today:
$25 Brinks-wrapped yielded 22.1% copper 4 wheats 8 zinc canadian 1 King
$75 customer-wrapped yielded 33.2% copper 23 wheats, including a 1919, a 1934, and an EF 1935 lots of canadian (forgot to count them)
And get this: my Ryedale machine attacked me!!! A penny shot out of the slot and hit me right where it counts! It didn't fly fast, and I barely felt it, but uh..yeah....have any of you had your Ryedale shoot you? I stopped the machine, took a look at it, and everything looked normal. I ran the coin again, no problems. No other problems before or after. Curious. I was hoping it was a Flying Eagle cent, but no, just a 2007. |

| Got the power hooked up in my garage conversion yesterday and set up a few of my machines on the workbench. Sawed through 16 boxes last night in a few hours. I love my Ryedale!!! Will have the percentages tonight. Now if I can just get the alternative penny extraction method working to remove the pennies from the Brinks wraps like c140cessna suggested. With a 150 psi compressor on top of a 33 gallon tank I think I have enough power to blow them out if I just get it hooked up right. |

Report For Past 7 days:
Sorted 29 boxes Found 248 wheats including 3 1918's Average box weight sorted was 6810 grams Estimate 20,358 copper found or 28%
I expect a slow week next week. Santa doesn't like the noise of my sorting so I got to keep it down for a few days. |

4 boxes of cents:
3122 copper 31.22%
30 wheats
47 copper canada
2 bahamas(steel or zinc?)
$50 in nickels:
3 from the 1940's 16 from the 1950's and a 1964-d that's copper on the outside. It's not copper coated as it is well worn and looks like a hunk of copper. Could the alloy be the wrong mixture of nickel and copper? |

Banks around here are reluctant to part with cents lately - saying they need them for the holiday shopping rush.
I've been averaging a hair over 30%. I include Canadian copper in my count. |

I've been told that, too. grrr... I've had to redouble my efforts this morning just to get a few boxes. Banks here are tapped out!
Maybe instead of pennies, we should all just chip in and buy a copper mine. |

| Maybe this is the week to turn in all your zinc at the banks if they think they need them for the holiday rush. They might be less reluctant to take them. Go ahead, haul in 40 or 50 boxes to help them out.. after all, it's Christmas! Worst case maybe you can at least get those banks that won't give up the pennies right now to swap you some boxes. |

Speaking of "all chipping in", I was looking into copper ingots on the web coming from some big suppliers many of them overseas. You can get 40 kilo bars at spot price if you buy 40 metric tons (copper is $6561 per MT). I am not sure how much if any of the shipping would be covered, but you would definetely be responsibilty for picking it up at a major port of your choice.
Now I just need about 80 people to split the deal with. Anybody own and drive a semi for a living? |
