I've really enjoyed seeing the sorting percentages for pennies that people have been sharing. I've become curious -- does anyone have a feel for percentages of 90% and 40% half dollars? I see reports here and there, but nothing nearly as organized as what is on this site with pennies. Is there a generally recognized %yield for half-dollars as there is with pennies? Thanks, MaDeuce

| The percentages on half dollars vary widely. Ahything from 0 to quite a few depending on how lucky you get. It is really luck of the draw on half dollars as opposed to pennies where the percentages tend to run pretty close in a given area. Obviously if someone were to sort a large number of boxes it would increase their odds of getting a few good ones. Does the CC2000 machine sort half dollar size coins? |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

HCBTT, yes, the 2000 sorts half-dollars, though I have not done it. After going back through some of the realcent posts that I've missed recently, I've started to get a little bit of an itch to try sorting half-dollars just for fun. I may try that with the 2000 that I have yet to list on eBay. It must be a sight to see half-dollars come flying out of a sorter... MaDeuce |

So true. Depends where you live and how lucky you are.
I can only give my experiences. (all are approx)
1 year hunting
$72500 spent ($4500 recycled many times)
$550 face in 40% halves found
$125 face in 90% halves (inclues 1 Barber and many walking libs & Bens)
$1 in silver dollars (1886 Morgan)
At todays silver that works out to about $3665 sell.
I do better than most but there are others that put me to shame. Many try it a few times, get nothing and give up.

Very true. I have been skunked on my last three boxes. And, in those boxes I saw a number of black marker marks in conspicuous places like someone was sorting and seeing if they were getting any return coins.
Cyberdan -- from where do you order your half dollar boxes? |

Thanks Dan. My source has always been a BofA branch too. But, I need to change that to another bank entirely as I seem to be getting a bunch of someone else's post-sorts. Very disappointing.
