I want to get my largest order ever, maybe 1/2 a normal HCBTT weekly order of pennies $1,200 before the 2008 pennies start showing up in the rolls.

I want to make sure that I don't have a bunch of coin at my house, should I be gone for the holidays.

I would really like to order my coin after Jan 1, but I don't know if I would get all new coin or a normal box from Brinks. Brinks rolls all their coin in plastic, so it may take them a while to get 2008 pennies into the mix.

Does anyone know?

I didn't see any 2007s show up in Indianapolis until late spring of 2007 and almost all of the ones that I have seen were not in Brinks boxes. I have only ever seen 2-3 boxes of Brinks that were contaminated with new pennies (about 50% new). I suspect Brinks (at least in Indianapolis) only gets new pennies as a last resort...

By the way, if you are lucky enough to get a solid box of 2008s early in the year, it it will likely be selling for a hefty premium on E-Bay. At least, that is the way the 2007 were. The started off at a premium and by the time that I started seeing, them the premium was pretty much gone.

Also if by chance the penny gets axed mid 2008, you will want all the solid unopened 2008 boxes of UNCs that you can get. Of course to have a chance to get them, I would find a bank that doesn't use Brinks. (hint try a Chase bank in Indy).

Other than the 2008s diluting the copper/zinc mix even more, my main concern with them is that 2008 could become a transition year much like 1982 was and goodby zinc cents.

I don't expect a change in 2008. Copper is at a low for the year, inventories are at highs, slowing down of the housing market which uses copper. I expect copper will be at or below $2.50 range at the end of the 2008. Maybe we should have predictions.

I posted a note on the Bullion forum regarding 2008 predictions.

Hey, I don't order that many.. I am only getting $1100 this week.

No worries about the 2008 pennies getting in the mix prior to March. I don't see many new coins in the Brinks rolls at all.. they are usually in the paper wrapped rolls. With the amount of pennies I order from as many banks as I do, I should be one of the first guys to see 2008 pennies and I don't really expect that to happen until March. Though I have one bank that I think has a slight chance of getting them earlier so I will put in a large order with that bank in February. They were one of the first banks I got new pennies from last year. If you are going to do large orders get yourself a nice cart to make it easy on your back.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.
