I have a question that maybe some of you all can help me with. Where would be the best place to take the coppers to post melt band and cash out? I know that most of the local places here in Phoenix pay about $1.50 per pound now.

Any answer at this point is pure guess work. A market for scrapping pennies won't be commonly in place until sometime after the melt ban is gone. Even when it was legal, most scrappers didn't want to touch pennies as scrap bacause of a false fear of getting in trouble. Plus the scrappers in general aren't familiar with just how much copper is in a penny so they were wary of them.

The exception was the guy who combined his metals business with melting pennies (pre-ban).

On the other hand, the E-BAY, collecting, hoarding markets seems to be developing slowly but surely. I think, most of us are expecting to sell in those markets.

At some point I would love to see a "public" scrap market develop for pennies, but not so I could sell there. Rather because it would create a nice floor price under the E-BAY, collecting, hoarding markets.

Welcome to the forum, mohomcman. The ban probably will not be lifted until a few years after a composition change.. regardless of the efforts of certain politians. This is good for us hoarders as it allows us to accumulate more copper before big industialized companies get into it. When the ban is eventually lifted it would be best to just shop around for who is paying the highest prices in your area. You can do this by phone.. just call them up, tell them how many tons you have of #2 copper and get a quote. A lot of times you can get a little better price if you have larger quantities. Of course there are plenty of guys on this board that will pay you $1.50 per pound now even though the ban has not been lifted yet.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

Here in Ohio places Jackson Salvage or other salvage yards should be buying. But I'm still thinking that a market much like that for 90% silver coins will appear. Many of our pennies may not hit the melting pot for a very long time even after the melting ban is history.
