Do you think there will be a market for unshearched(sp) penny rolls in the future. by weight i have been keeping tight rapped rolls that weight 136 grams or more.

Doubtfull there will be a big demand, if any at all, because there will be enough sorted coin out there that theres no need for unsorted. |

What percentage of copper do you think 136 grams is? I haven't done the math... |

Since a roll of copper pennies is about 155 grams and the average difference between a copper and a zinc penny is about .5 grams; I would guess that your 136 gram roll has 12 copper pennies in it (give or take). |

Where are you getting your numbers? A roll containig twenty coppers would wiegh about 140 grams (3.1 grams x 20 = 62 grams) + (2.6 grams x 30 = 78), 62 + 78 = 140. |

What weight and percentage do you want it to be? If there is a market for tightly wrapped rolls I will fire up the machines and roll some up. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I suppose I could be a little off. My zincs tend to wiegh either 2.5 to 2.6 grams while my coppers tend to wiegh between 3 and 3.2 grams. However If the avg difference between a zinc and copper penny is closer to .6 grams then that would change things. I was just wondering how you did your calculations.
For what its worth I would agree that there would be little or no market for unsearched rolls as long as you can get them from the banks. However, I might be willing to pay a slight premium (10% to 20%) if I knew that a given roll wieghed 145 grams or more. |

How much does the wrapping weigh? Not much, but we're talking about the nearest tenth of a gram, and many of us have scales which can do that, or better. I think it would be good to know the actual WRAPPED weight of a solid CU roll and a solid ZN roll. Then weighing rolls would help you find the better ones faster. Of course, I would still open them unless the weight told me it was pure copper or pure zinc. And even then, I still might open it!!! |

I actually weighed them on a digital gram scale. I started with 40 coppers and ten zincs, then kept removing pairs of coppers and adding zincs until it got close to the 136 gms he mentioned. I suppose using math would have been easier, but I was lazy that day |
