Hi guys:

Question for the group: do you prefer hand sorting or machine sorting, and why? Beyond the obvious point which is that the machine can do more volume, that is. From reading this board since thie hobby kidnapped me a few weeks ago, seems like some people just plain prefer hand sorting.

In fact, I have a Ryedale on the way, and I figure I might still continue to hand sort on the side because...well...it's kind of fun! In particular, here's what I like about hand sorting:

- You can spot specific stuff like canadians, AU/BU specimens, etc.
- You can clear out the ugly abes if you don't want them in there
- If you're a coin collector (which I am), you can spot individual specimens missing from your collection (for example I recently filled the empty 1910 hole in my lincoln book)
- You can do it in the living room with the TV on, and in my case, with my wife next to me, so we're still spending 'quality time' together
- Something satisfying about completing a small bucket of coppers that you did by hand

Anyone else have a Ryedale who also continues to hand sort?

Now selling Zinc pennies 1.0000 X FV :)

A number of us hand sort what the ryedale put out as copper. We just save time from going over the zinc ones.

I kind of do both I guess. I do a quick hand sort to pick out any wheats, Indians, and anything else that looks interesting. I also pick out all the gummed up, bent, stuck together coins. This makes the Ryedale run much smoother. I have run 50,000 coins through many times without a single jam.

COPPER - the "poormans" precious metal!!!

SELLING - $100.00 face copper shipped to you for $189.00 machine rolled or bagged - PM me if your interested.

I travel a lot. If I have time, I will hand sort a box in the hotel.

I don't have a Ryedale, so I only hand sort. I'm not really looking to get a machine as the hand sorting is a stress reliever for me. I like to sit down among my coin albums, sort some pennies, and look over my coins (I'm a collector also). I'm forever checking wheaties I find to see if any are better than the ones in my books. Sometimes I get lucky!

Are you throwing that out?
