Since there is a market for copper bullion bars, would it be more profitable to find a local refiner to melt down the copper from wires, etc into bullion vs. being a middle man to the scrap yard and only getting 60 cents to a $1/lb for insulated copper wires?

It's not a stupid idea, however I'm betting the refiner is going to want too large of a cut to make this feasible. With a large enough order it may be worth it but you'll have to talk to the refiner to know for sure. Good luck :D! |

First thing to do is strip the wires to get twice as much payout.

That is an interesting concept. I personally have not heard of any refiners making copper bullion bars. I would not mind finding a place myself that did that, so I could take in my hoarded copper and leave with 20 lb ingots. Easier storage. |

Probably much easier to market for profit in the future as well. |
