This wire has me a bit puzzled. I know its copper because when I was hand stripping it copper shines through when you barely nick it. Its seems to be either tarnished, coated, or old not sure. Need a bit of help here. First question: what is it? Second: What kind of copper and how much does the scrap yard usually pay? Thanks for any help guys oh and heres a picture. To the right is a regular copper wire just to help visually with the color.

Approximately what guage is it?
It looks like it's appliance wire. You'll probably get paid for #2 copper. Just guessing, I'm not sure. |

I think it was #2 (approx. same dia, as a pencil) there was 4 strands inside of the rubber insulation as wells as strands of small yellow twine/rope. |

This was an electrial power cable for large equipment. At this point, I am guessing that it is plated with tin, Aluminum, nickel, or silver. Tin or Aluminum would be more likely. Wonder if there is anyway to test this or if it really matters?

It's tinned copper. It will sell as clean #2 copper. You will find this type of wire in most high voltage machinery and power supplies for computer equipment. It's still good stuff! |

Thank you very much sir, I knew one of you would know this. I was just half shocked to see the color after it was stripped. Because every other electrial power cable at my work strips out at clean #1 copper except another coaxail type.
