The other day sorting pennies I got something I have never gotten before in a roll of pennies.
I have gotten plenty of dimes in my CWR's.. even a couple of silver Roosevelts and a Mercury.. even entire rolls of clad dimes in a penny roll.. but for the first time I got a nickel in a roll of pennies.
It was jammed in there and I was thinking it was probably some sort of mutilated coin or something.. but when I finally got it out it was a discolored 2005 nickel. Really odd.
No, we don't need a tracking thread for these! They're too rare.

I've gotten 2. The jam up the machine and the counter if you try to put the coins through the counter first. Same with the euro 5 cent coins which I've also gotten a few of.

How/ Why are people putting these larger coins in these rolls?
Nickels with pennies. Quarters with nickels.
Are the rolls short and they are using the other coin to make up the difference? |

Hoard, was it at the end, a coin or too deep, or did the roller force it towards the center of the roll. Seems like forcing a 50cal ball down a 45cal muzzleloader. |

I never got a nickel in a penny roll but I have found a couple of those British New Pennies and they are almost as big. Those suckers are hard to get out of the roll without tearing it, I have no idea how they get them in there. |

I got a Euro 1-cent recently in a CWR, but it was smaller than a penny. A thick little chub of copper...reminded me of the thickness of the old nicks (USA CuNi sm. cent 1856-1864). |

I got a Bermuda twenty five cent piece this AM in a penny roll; it is about the size of a US nickel.
I think people get in rush and just grab a handful of coins and stick them in the wrappers. |

Hoard, I think I remember you saying only get rolls and not bags, correct?
If that is the case, a nickel jammed in a penny roll would be odd.
Since I have gotten pennies loose not only have I gotten nickels but quarters as well! My record in a $50 bag of pennies however was in dimes at over $16! :-)

I've found two British pennies, a seriously eroded nickel, some weird aluminum Asian coin that was slightly bigger than an LMC and a bunch of dimes in the first $2K of mostly Brinks boxes I've sorted. I think the flexibility of Brinks plastic rolls allows these but not any normal nickels. Or maybe it's their equipment? I'm not surprised by the CWRs since these are usually flat and bigger than NFS shotguns. You can keister nickels in a flat penny roll but it hurts it and won't like a whole two bucks worth.
Copper Catcher, your $14.40 gain was somebody's loss. That's a seriously screwed up sorting machine. Are you still buying bags from that source and getting dimes like that? |

Well, he did answer my question....
was it a machine wrapped roll, or a CWR.
How many of these have been found in MWR? That is a tracking thread worth the setup! |
