Picked up a few coins out of a junk box at a coin show this past Friday and there are three I need some help with. Tried finding info online and it was of no help, so I thought I would come to the best source of knowledge...the members of Realcent.
I don't know if these are obsolete or still circulating so I opted for this topic.
First coin: 1946 Republic of Colombia 20 Centavos. I found a picture of one on eBay but it wasn't the same color that mine is. The picture on eBay looked like the color of our pennies--reddish brown. Mine looks like a dirty dime. What is the composition, is it still in circulation, any other interesting info about this coin???
Second coin: 1968 BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DEL PERU, UN SOL DE ORO. Is that a llama on the reverse of the coin? What is the composition, etc, etc, etc?
Third coin: I may not even be able to type some of these letter/symbols and I have not a clue where it is from. 1976 is all I can tell you so I need your HELP!!!
I will have to describe what it looks like as I have no letters/symbols to type it.
First word: (looks like a backwards 7) E (looks like an upside down horseshoe) P (looks like a backwards 7) (looks like a straight stick) O (looks like a sideways M or a strange E)
Next word: K A P A (looks like a straight stick with a dot on either side at the top but not touching the stick) (looks like a sideways M or a strange E) K A K H (looks like a sideways M or a strange E)
That is all the writing on the obverse (I think) of the coin with a guy that has a long mustache and long hair.
Reverse of coin: There is a 2 in the middle of 1976 at the bottom center of the coin.
Directly above the date and number two is this word: (looks like a triangle) P[shorter leg than our P] (looks like a 4 tilted to the left) X M (looks like a 4 tilted to the left) (looks like a straight stick)
Writing around the coin near the rim: First word: E (looks like an upside down V) (looks like an upside down V) H N (looks like a straight stick) K H
Could be all one word or could be more than one word: Continuing: (looks like a triangle) H M O K P[shorter leg than our P] (looks like a 4 tilted to the left) T (looks like a straight stick) (looks like a 4 tilted to the left)
There are crossed guns (like rifles) a branch and something else in the design on the reverse(?).
What country is this coin? What is the composition? What else can anyone tell me about this coin?
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
If I messed up and this should have been posted in: Cerulean's "What is it?" foreign coin ID thread could someone please move this post for me? If not, then please leave here. Thanks. This was my edit.

#1 - Columbia 20c 1946 (KM-208.3) - .500 Fine SILVER .0803 TOZ ASW
#2 - Peru 1 Sol 1968 (KM-248) - Brass with llama on reverse
#3 - Greece 2 Drachmai 1976 (KM-117) - Nickel-Brass
(Greek letters: Upside down "V" (lambda) is an "L"; triangle (delta) is a "D"; "P" (rho) is an "R"; sideways "M" (sigma) is an "S"; "H" (eta) is an "E"). Replace these and the words become somewhat pronounceable.)

The coin from Greece commemorates Georgios Karaiskakis a greek hero who fought for his country's independence from the Turks.

Thanks for info. I was wondering if the Colombia was silver but when I saw the picture on this eBay sale, I really wondered. Don't know who this is but found it in a Google search.

Thanks, Country. I was wondering if some of those were Greek letters.
Does anyone know what the significance of the design on the reverse is? What is that besides the guns and the branch?
Regarding the Colombian coin: Why would the coin in the link I posted look like our pennies when mine looks like a dirty dime? |

Thanks, Country, for all of the additional information on the Greek coin, especially.
When I went to the link you provided, that is definitely the guy that is depicted on the coin. Cool!
When I was in high school and college, world history sure could have been made a lot more interesting if the teachers/professors had tied in interesting details and tidbits like these coins, etc. |
