I just pulled a coin out of a penny roll that I had never seen before. It's a 1964 10 Rappen coin from Switzerland. I looked it up online and I'm pretty sure its composition is copper-nickel, although I was hoping it might be silver. Can anyone tell me anything about this coin? Does it have any numismatic value?
It is basically a Swiss dime and is cupro-nickel. It has a mintage of 16.34 million, so is worth its face value just like a typical US cupro-nickel coin from the 1960s. It would only have numi value if it were mint/uncirculated/proof. Interesting thing about the 10 Rappen is that it has been the same design since 1879. You can see the similarity to US coins of the time like the Morgan and Barber designs.

Swiss coinage definitely has a pretty design. Very classic and like a piece of art. Modern U.S. coins look so cheap.

Thanks for the info Aggressive Metal. The coin really does look a lot older than it is. I had no idea what it was when I pulled it out of the penny roll, but my first impression was that it was pretty old. It was an interesting find, but I was hoping it might have a little value to it. Oh well!
