I have access to a large supply of used dry cell batteries (A's AA's AAA's C's D's). I have tried taking them to recycling yard in the past, but the yards won't buy them. How practical would it be for me to just take them apart myself, and sell the different metals to the yard? What are the safety and or enviromental consequences?
If it is pratical for me to take them apart, are there any helpful suggestions or hints?

As far as i know these batteries have no value and would cost you more than they are worth to try and disassemble. About the only thing of any value in a dry cell is the housing but how many would you have to take apart to make a pound. If you happen to come across some cell phone or laptop batteries there are many buyers for these. |

Juan:
Read your file on scrib. Interesting! But, how many silver button batteries to the kilogram of silver dioxide "waste"? How long does the process take to get the 300 to 350 grains of silver per kilo of waste? What would be an efficient amount/number of batteries to recover to make the process worthy or of value?
Thanks in advance for your information,
John |
