Needed to clean out some room in the storage unit, so I loaded up the trailer.
11/12:
1760 lb. unprepared iron - $53.00 210 lb. insulated copper - $105.00 16 lb. stainless steel - $8.00 10 lb. ACSR - $1.50
11/13:
60 lb. #2 copper - $111.00 8 lb. insulated copper (15% rec) - $8.00 62 lb. clean aluminum - $ 21.70 48 lb. breakage aluminum - $4.80 1 car battery - $4.00 6 lb. lead - $1.50 1086 lb. scrap iron - $32.58 74 lb. Cu/Alum RAD - $44.40 202 lb. phone cable (50% rec) - $121.20 38 lb. lamp cord - $4.56 166 lb. electric motors - $16.60 12 lb. comm. wire - $2.40
Overall I made $520.44. Not bad for a few hours loading up the truck and trailer. I'm still sitting on about 600 lb. of #1 copper and I have plenty more wire to hand strip when the snow starts falling. It's time to break out a nice single malt scotch and a cigar and go to work! |

Got a question. I was given an antique wrought iron bed frame that is incomplete. I don't want to put the work into refinishing it. Who/where can I take it to get the thing recycled? Is it worth it? Looking for places and prices right now. I will keep the motif from it and refinish that one small piece, but the rest of it is a goner! |

OKAY,okay...I am waking up. I live in a large apartment complex and someone through out one of those $1,000.00 bar-b-que grills. I was thrilled! There is no way that I could afford that. Got a question. Is this also something that can be scraped? It is a four burner, and they were supposed to use gas to ignite it. They used charcoal, so that tells me there is some damage to something in there that they did not want to fix. It's steel, or something. Anyway, can it be recycled to a metal place? Gosh, I need an education!
There was one guy that I knew of that did metal scrapping as his living. Now, people looked down on the whole thing cause this guy had no formal education. This is what someone did who had no book learning, we were told. Well, he lived pretty good. Better than most who had an education. Some said he got money from his wife. I think that attitude prevails, if you are a scrapper, you ain't very smart. But, with people giving away stoves, fridges, freezers and stuff where I live, I wonder who the dummies really are? |

If I was you I'd take what you have to a antique shop. They will buy rails by themselves. Might bring 50 bucks. |

I brought in a large bag of cans, some misc aluminum, and maybe 20 lbs each of brass and stainless this morning and got $60 bucks for it. I trust my yard so I don't even bother weighing it up anymore. I was happy with the $60 - it'll help! |

200 lbs scrap steel.
$15.00 so it works out to about 7.5 cents per pound. Not my best haul but at least I got paid for removing a bunch of junk from where I work. |

Hello to all out there
I stumbled across this forum and just had to join in the fun. I'm looking forward to making a run to the scrap yard this weekend and hope to provide price info for CT to all that care. |

Liked the prices above. Comparatively scrap prices are dismal in my area (southern Canadian prairies). Recent offering 1.20/lb for clean copper, 0.20/lb for insulated wire. Last sale 1.00/lb (November/09) for clean copper 1.00/lb, would take my insulated wire but couldn't pay me for it, needless to say it came home with me. Unfortunately only two buyers within 1.5 hour drive from me. Need a new sales strategy. Solid scrap steel, obsolete tillage equipment, 2 quotes 50.00/MT, 100.00/MT
