Prepared steel was paying $0.09/lb. The owner told me last week he expects prices to drop in October. I think I'm going to make a steel trip next weekend. I have about a quarter ton to gather... |

I'm seeing prices drop on several commodities. The main reason is the shipping lines that take the stuff to China are trying to raise their rates. |

I cashed in a few bags of cans and about 30lbs of extruded aluminum and about 100lbs of steel. Didn't weight the cans, and didn't ask what the price was, but I got 28 bucks, which was more than expected. I go to this guy all the time and I trust them so I don't bother weighing it all up. |

I went to a yardsale and found 2 big brass candlesticks. I am 6'1 and one was up to my hip and one was over my knee. She wanted $20 for both but I talked her down to $10. I took one apart and turned it in and got $14 just for the one up to my hip. Still have to turn in the other one.
Also turned in the contents of a bucket I bought at a church yardsale. There were a bunch of little copper pipes in the bottom along with a sledge hammer. Got $5 for the copper paid $2 for the bucket. |

50 lbs aluminum cans @ $.40/lb $20 18 lbs copper (various scrap) @ $2.00/lb $36
Total: $56.00
I was kind of inappropriate languageed though. I called the place and they said they were buying stripped wires at $2.30/lb, and other copper at $2.20/lb. I shouldn't worry about an extra $3.60, but it's the principle damn it!! |

Hate to see a yard not pay what they quote. Maybe that price was for 100 pound minimum. |

12 car batteries $4 ea = $48 1 catylitic converter = $30 - yes cheap but it fell off a car ahead of me in traffic a few weeks ago but it but was flatten by losded 18 wheeler ahead of me at lights - was very HOT!!!
I also had 2 feed bags full of pop cans but this new to me yard did not buy csns - but I could leave them there if I wanted to. Yeah right!! Besides I left my other aluminium at home because they only offered $0.50 for extruded & $0.30 for cast aluminium. I will wait & hold what I have & see if the price gets any better in 2010. |
