Two days after my birthday, and I found my oldest yet (if you discount indians)... a 1909 in not bad condition. Whoopee! It was upside down in the zincs pile when I found it, and I considered the reverse in it's good condition and thought, "grrhhh it's probably another 1940 or 41." Yippee, again. It's hard enough finding decent pennies that I'm gonna celebrate on this one, instead of just brushing it off with the a "well, what's next?"

Hoard now and hold on!

Very nice find. A good year for an Indian Penny. If you look at it REALLY hard I heard a S forms on the back of the coin. But its just a rumor from a crazy guy that hoards stuff.

Bully!

Happy birthday!

You really needed it, it's about time!

I told my wife I'm going to buy an air horn and give one quick blast for a wheat, and long blast for a pre 1940, and three long blasts if I find another indian.

She didn't like the idea.

When you get good luck push it!
Drop an FRN on the Lotto.

Congrats on the find.
I've heard that if you soak an '09 in mayo it helps an "S" to sprout under the date and the letters VDB appear on the reverse.
(It hasn't worked on the one I found, yet though.)

There's profit if you melt things!!

Happy belated Birthday to you,and congrats on your 1909 wheatie.

It's my birthday today I'm hoping for a good box of coppers when I go down to the bank later.

Do you think they will give me a free box if I tell them it's my birthday??(just kidding?)

JW... happy birthday. Of course they will give you what you're asking for, since it's your birthday, if you ask them nicely. I'm sure they'll give you a free box... unfortunately for you it'll be empty

Thanks for the HB beauanderos

I didn't get to the bank today it was to nice outside

I decided to go out metal detecting instead

I got my birthday silver a 1967(my birth year) Canadian centennial dime, and of course I said "Holy Mackerel" when I found it.The very next target was the brass 1967 Centennial token that they gave out to school kids.

And to top it off I dug my oldest coin to date a 1917 Wheatie.

Wow! Way to go BDBoy, (picture a conga line of fellow employees snaking around the office, raising their arms, then slapping their knees, chanting "he's 43, he's 43!") Are the coins you find buried ever able to be cleaned up so that they don't look too bad? Or do they always look like the dark side of the moon?

Well the dime didn't look like this one
but it did clean up OK.

I forgot to mention that I sort of found my 1st gold, it's a small gold plated(with most the plating coming off) silver woman's ring with a small stone in it.

I have my fingers crossed that it turns out to be a diamond.

If she'd had her fingers crossed, it wouldn't have fallen off Conga rats on this find as well, JW. Dude, you know how to celebrate a bd, don't you? So how does this work, then? You find out it's a valuable ring, contact the property owner to declare your find, take out ads describing the ring so that you can return it to the rightful owner so that you aren't plagued by guilt that makes you toss and turn night after night, covered with sweat until you throw back the covers and scream "I wish I'd never read that darned member-bonding ethics thread!?" Or maybe not.

Hoard now and hold on!

If it's real the girlfriend gets it.

It was found in the playing field of a closed down school that's almost 100 years old.

JW... you'll have to tell us how this turns out, for sure. "Hi Honey, I was digging in the dirt at the old playground, and found this ring. Wanna marry me?
