Has anyone heard of silver mining connectors used in coal mining. I know a retired coal miner that has some. He states that they are silver. JUst wondering if they are worth anything.
They are used in high-amperage cable connectors and switches because if there is an electrical arc when connected or disconnected, the contacts won't weld together. Also, arcing is less likely than brass or copper connectors due to the higher conductivity of silver. Which can be handy in an environment with explosive levels of coal dust, or explosive gasses.
Most people like to buy silver & gold in recognizable lumps. Preferably stamped with .999 fine, and the exact weight, and the name of the mint or whatever says they are what they are.
So if you are buying them to melt and make jewelry, you'll get a good deal.
But if you are buying them to sell or trade to someone someday, its probably a bad investment.
