I have a small pile of Mexican coins, been laying around for at least 5 years maybe more. I am not even sure where I got them anymore.

Anyhow, is there any interested collectors in Mexican coins? I would like to get rid of them, though I doubt they have much value.

I have a little over 100 coins, earliest is 1915, most recent I think is 1988. Demoninations: 1c,5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, 1p, 5p, 10p, 20p,50p, 100p, 500p. I could probably post a picture if someone wants to look at them. I a mostly interested in finding out if they have any value at all for selling, and if there is any market for them, here or elsewhere. Thanks

I would be somewhat interested in them... Please tell me which coins you have from before 1950. See also this post:

This type of modern stuff is exceedingly common. Some of the older coppers can be worth something though and in any event are good base-metal bullion.

I looked up the 1915 5 Centavo because it is the oldest and it lists as $3 in fine, and over $100 uncirculated.

Figured they were probably not worth much. Guess they will disappear into the darkness for another 20 years. Thanks for the responses.

I'd say there are a couple of the old coppers that book for $1-$3, but the modern stuff is just pretty cupro-nickel. Nothing wrong with stashing them away for a few decades. I personally love the old mexican copper and keep it alongside my other copper bullion - especially those beefy 20 Centavo coins.

Anyone got a link to the metal content of Mexican coins? Haven't had much luck finding a site that lists them.

You can look up the metal content of most mexican coins on wikipedia. I didn't see anything on the list that would be rare or silver...

Running total:

90% found: 122
40% found: 481

I would be interested in these:
1 centavo = 39x2
5 centavo = 15, 37, 43, 44, 45x2, 46x2
10 centavo = 20, 36, 38, 42, 78, 94
20 centavo = 43, 44x2, 45, 46, 74
50 centavo = 56
peso = 1978
100 peso = 85, 88
500 peso = 87x2, 88x2
PM me with an idea of what you're asking, and we can discuss it. Or perhaps an asking price for the whole lot.

I don't know for sure what the Cu percentage is. The closest I have found so far, is the Mexican currency law of 1905. It stated that the bronze 1C and 2C coins were to be 95% Cu, 4% Sn and 1% Zn. The typical recipe at the time for bronze coins.

I have no idea if that ever changed with the newer coins (pre Neuvo Peso, circa 1992). I have not been able to find anything to indicate if it did or didn't.

Really? None of those have silver? I thought a few would have some low content silver.

The local coin store started a new foreign coin bin for Mexico; separate from the regular junk bin.

I guess they are probably pretty common here in AZ.

Interesting idea, PennySaved. I used to read a lot of the ads selling world coins by the pound, and they would say "no Canadian" or "very little aluminum" or stuff like that.
