OK, after seeing all the fun you guys are having sorting halves, seeing that hardly anyone on the board is doing it in CA, and of course to finally get enough halves sorted so I can meet Country's minimum standards to be a player.. I decided to bust my cherry and order a couple of boxes of halves with one of my regular penny orders. Even though I knew this was going to tank my percentage.. I am a glutton for punishment.. and I love the adventure! The 2 boxes arrived yesterday.. along with 24 boxes of pennies.
I figured I would be on a streak either way.. a silver streak.. or a skunk streak. Well 7 rolls into the first box I spied the beautiful tone of the edge of a 40%! A 1967. I got silver in my first box! The box also yielded a pair of 68's for a total of 3 40% silvers. They probably just let me get silver in the first box so I would get hooked. I saved the second box for later.. since I won't get fresh boxes of halves until Thursday. Yes, I put in another order today.. I'm hooked!
Being on a silver streak.. I picked up $9 face from the teller trays at one of my other banks today. Another 1967! Whoohoo.. adding to the silver hoard!

Sort over the last couple days:
$100 CWR = 1- 90% 1964
$9 teller's tray = 1 - 90% 1964
$414.50 loose in canvas bag = 7 - 90% 1964, and 15 - 40% (2-'66, 8-'67, 4-'68, 1-'69)
$500 NF String box = 1 - 90% 1946 walker (my first walker in the wild!), and 5 - 40% (1-'66, 1-'67, 3-'68)
total found 10 - 90% and 20 - 40% |

dang my pickup this week is halve short due to halve of my order is in another teller's till and she is out till Tuesday...oh well...took a box of cookies in to the bank....lots of's
been busy remodeling one of our bathrooms this week so behind on sorting got this done last night.
box 1: 1)40% a 68...and 100 halves with sorter marks the red slasher is back
box 2; zippo but a 2003 D...only 25 marked halves with ten different marking's...
into box 3 but not finished so far 3 40%er's
...Hoard, I used three 5 gal buckets, a dolly and my liftgate on my truck to return last weeks halves sorts...had to fetch the "machine lady" 3 times to change the bags...Valerie was all's the whole time and we had pleasant conversation...with some cents my deposit was just over 5 g's it was nice to get that amount out of the house |

| I sorted 8,000 quarters this week; 4k on Monday; 4k on Friday. Monday I found 6 silver, 1944 the oldest, and one recent canadian. Friday I found 0 silver and 5 recent canadians and a half dollar sized 1982 Panamanian coin with no denomination on it. The 6 silver were a nice surprise. |

Well, y'all know I am a big proponent of the search/sort more approach. But there is one other solution. You can just "BUY" them. That is what I did today. Haven't been finding enough in my sorts.. mostly 'cause I don't sort enough.. so I bought a nice pile of 40% halves at $2 each at a coin show today. Some of them were really nice, shiny BU's too! |

I hear you on "Buying" them.. But that is like skipping the old fishing hole and driving down to the Trout Farm and paying to get a fish on every cast. It takes a lot of the fun out of it..
On the other hand I can see how if your not finding any silver then there is no fun in that either.. I guess just do what ever makes you happy.. |

I still like to fish.. but sometimes you fish and don't catch much. And isn't it great when you have a taste for trout and the grocery store has it on sale for 20% off? While I would certainly like to go fishing all the time.. sometimes ya gotta go to the day job. I was just saying that even though I am a big proponent of "sorting more," there is always the "buy it now" option. Hard to resist adding to the hoard when they put it on sale like that. |
