I have a bad habit (which tends to ruin the fun) of weighing all my half dollar rolls prior to opening. Normal weight for SKUNK rolls tends to be 225.5-226.7 grams. 227.2 grams seems to be a magic number for me...that weight and above almost always will yield a 90% half dollar. You are correct in stating that this is a good method for identifying long and short rolls. Short (-1) rolls will be in the vicinity of 214-215 and long (+1) rolls are between 237-238. I have not found weighing dime rolls to be a good predictor of the presence of silver...also I almost never find long/short MWRs of dimes.

Picked up 2 bags of halves today.
Bag one was interesting. ($1000)
1 1970 D 1 1987 P and a 1987 D 3 1964 13 40%
What is so weird is the 1970 D and both 1987's
Bag 2 is even more interesting, but I will wait till I am done before posting the results.

I am in St. Louis for a couple weeks and today tried a box of dimes and a box of nickels from here. Both were a skunking. |

Friday thru Tuesday report on DIMES searched...
$1,250.00 Dimes (5 Coin Wrap Inc. boxes).
Breakdown:
Box #1 - (1) 90% Silver Roosevelt - 64D
Box #2 - Silver SKUNK, but one of the finest gold plated coins I've seen...1967 Roosevelt.
Box #3 - S K U N K
Box #4 - S K U N K
Box #5 - S K U N K
Not very good...the worst run of DIME SKUNKS I've run into. Myself and several others have pulled quite a few SILVER DIMES over the past months here in SE Wisconsin. Perhaps the area needs to get reseeded???

Friday thru Tuesday report on HALVES searched...
$1,399.00 Halves.
Breakdown:
$500.00 - CWI box (no facility/date stamp...059 stamp).
AWESOME BOX...best ever for non-JFK SILVER halves!!!
(8) 90% - 17D (rev. MM) Walker, 50D Ben, 52D Ben, 53D Ben, 58D Ben, (3)64D JFK (1) NIFC - 04P
Oddly NO 40% in the box. On the Walker...I can only make out the last digit of the date (7) and the Denver MM on the reverse. I have to conclude it is a 17D as there are no 27D's and I would highly doubt that either a 37D or 47D would be this worn. The coin weighs 11.4 grams, having lost 1.1 grams off it's original minting weight of 12.5 grams.
$500.00 - CWI box (no facility/date stamp...059 stamp).
I was hoping for a companion to the above as it came from the same bank and had the same box specs, however not even a single silver in this box...S K U N K.
$299.00 - (30) loose rolls from a CWI #064 box dtd 4/29/09...3 short rolls/1 long roll (net -$1.00).
(5) NIFC - 02P, 06D, (3)08D
$100.00 - (10) loose String rolls from a CWI box.
(1) 40% - 68D
