I gonna have to buy the old lady a new clothes dryer... Anyway, what should I scrap off the old one I have? How much should the scrap steel bring?

The steel won't bring alot. Its the motor and and the wiring that are worth some. If the controller still works you can try selling that on ebay. I have bought a few that way to keep my current one going.

The difference between an optimist and a pessimist is that the pessimist is better informed.

If the heating element and/or motor are good, sell them on craigslist or ebay.
They are worth much as replacements than scrap metal.
A new replacement motor can run anywhere from $50 to over $100.
Getting $20 to $30 for it should be easy.

As n082s said, yank out all the wiring. In high amperage applicances it is nice thick and heavy copper.

You had better add some flowers to that new dryer.

Grandpa always told me, "Back in 1964..." I listened.

Selling copper cents @ $2.50/lb. + shipping.
