Common, circulated wheats are worth 3-5 cents each. Anything dated 1919 or older is not common. There are also some post 1919s that are not common. I separate mine into two groups: "worth 9 cents or more" and "worth 8 cents or less". I find that about 99 out of 100 wheats that I find fall into the "worth 8 cents or less" pile.
Here is the price sheet that I use:
"The prices in this table are approximately what a dealer will give you for average grade coins of the type typically found in old jars, shoe boxes, Whitman folders, dealer "unsorted lots," etc."

I am sure the above guide is not all that accurate or current, but it serves its purpose as a way to separate the wheat (hehe..I made a funny) from the chaff.
