Just want to say Hi. My name is Dan and I live in So California.
I am new to this forum but not new to coin hoarding. I started out by metal detecting about 4-5 years ago and dug several thousand coins, one at a time. (and lots of gold and silver jewelry) The first silver coin I found was a very thin 1913 Barber dime but I have only found a few silver coins since then. But then about 10 months ago I started visiting banks looking for silver coins and have done very well. Trouble is I rarely get out any more to metal detect.
I usually look through the larger coins, but when they are hard to find I would buy a box of pennies from the merchant teller. Doing a box of pennies by eye was so hard on my eyes I only did it when I needed a coin hunting fix. (my percentages, I am sure, were 20-30%) About two weeks ago I was chatting with someone on one of my other forums and he mentioned he was saving for a RYEDALE. I had no idea what he was talking about and asked for more details. I was intrigued.
To make a long story shorter, Andy has one on the way right now. Hope to get it by this weekend. I figure that I will be visiting banks anyway why not ask for halves, big dollars and PENNIES. There is always a good market for silver coins. Don't know yet what I will be doing with all those coppers.
Dan

Welcome Dan. Keep in touch with us as to how you are doing percentage wise there in Southern California.

Hi Dan, Welcome to the forum. I am a fellow Californian, but up north. Congrats on getting a Ryedale.. I absolutely love mine!
I sometimes look for silver too, but mostly I just hoard copper.
If your percentages are low.. just sort more.

I hunt mostly halves and "big" dollars. My best and oldest is an 1886 Morgan dollar. I also found a 1925 Hudson Bay Commerative half, $200 in the blue book if I remember, till I took it to my coin dealer. It was counterfit. Also, a Barber half in fair condition. |

Oh, yea! Boy is it fast. Found 175 wheats with it yesterday, but that slows me down picking the wheats out of the memorials. |
