Hello all, I am new to the forum but I have been lurking for some time now. I like the Ryedale Copper / zinc sorter machine, however it is out of my price range. I would like to build one of my own and I am familiar with the coin comparator device however I have not been able to find the thing that rotates and aligns each penny for transfer to the comparator. I would think that is a commercial item out there somewhere.
Is there anyone out there who can lead me in the right direction to find that part of the machine?
I apologize if I overlooked it on this forum, but I have searched and searched.
Thank you!

Yes, it's a commercial part, but it will run you upwards of $200 anyway. I bought one with the same idea, and later traded it to somebody to use as a spare for their Ryedale.

| luckydog, you would be better off buying the Ryedale. Many have tried to make their own. Most realized it is better to just buy the Ryedale. |

Thank you for your quick replies...WOW ok, $200.00 seems expensive but it is a neat thing. Is there a preferred vendor in the US for one of these things? I enjoy designing my own projects and It would be easier to just purchase the Rayedale however, i enjoy building things too, so it is a toss up. Does any body have a source for the comparator also, the one I have read about on this forum was the model HI-08CS is there another preferred unit?
thank you all! |

| you might try checking with slot machine sales/repair places, or maybe buy a used penny slot machine for parts. Slots that pay out coins use pretty much the same device. |

| The comparitor is also an off the shelf part but you also need to connect the two and a frame to hold the whole thing. Better to buy a Ryedale as he's solved those problems. Ryedale also has a cheaper model in beta version. It's not on the website yet but you could ask if you can buy one. |

| Just find the name of the part, it's number. And check it's price or it or a similar piece |

| I tried to build my own, and then bought the Ryedale. My suggestion would be to buy the Ryedale and save yourself the money and frustration of trying to build one and make it work effeciently. |

| I agree wtih Knibloe that it's easier to just fork over the money now. Most people can make their money back within a couple of months, or so people say it can be done. |

| Hey Nate, you replied to the newbie question about finding a cube hopper to build a Ryedale and I followed your link to your sale of said item. I'm a newbie myself but I'm also an electronic engineer so my brain forces me to see for myself why it's not feasible to DIY. Sorry if this is a redundant question but I've spent several tens of hours about this on realcent and haven't found the specific answers of why not to try. Has anyone one here tried and succeeded or failed to construct a Ryedale-like device? Sorry if I have double posted. |

It can be done, especially with an engineering background, but the point is you won't save any money building it yourself. Until you locate all the different components, buy them, pay for shipping, and then spend time fabricating a frame of some sort, not to mention that the plastic chute is a part Andy molds, it's not something you can buy anywhere else, you'll find the savings are very little. Even if you only value your time at minimum wage, it will probably work out better to buy a Ryedale, a tested and proven design with a support community here and a builder that backs them up, than it would to build one.
Don't get me wrong, I love to build and tinker (I'm a mechanical engineering student myself), and I still have a pile of coin processing parts that I hope to assemble someday, but realistically trying to duplicate a Ryedale is not a money-saving venture. Andy's machine is very fairly priced. |

Looks like knibloe tried and failed. I've seen others post the same thing. You can likely build anything - the question is what is more efficient. |

Nothing wrong with building your own.. and many of us love a challenge. I have a few of the parts and enjoy tinkering myself. But I realized very early on that I could buy all of Andy's expertise for a very reasonable price and be happily sorting away long before I could get something up and running that in all likelyhood would not work as well. My first Ryedale paid for itself in under 2 weeks of heavy sorting. My only regret on buying my Ryedale was that I waited a few months to do it. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |
