It looks like it could be silver. Try more online research, or ask a coin dealer in your area.

Right. You should post it also in the foreign coins section, because that's where some of these Realcenters will be expecting it.

looks like this is what you got. Nice find! How did you come across it - was it in a roll of halves?

I can't find anywhere how much it might be worth. Found it at my grandmas in a bag full of old change

The lion and crest suggest to me that its almost certainly Dutch. Looks pretty old, too.

I see a date at the top of 1610. Nice.

Edit: make that 1616

If genuine it looks to be Netherlands-West Friesland, KM14.2

struck in .750 fine silver
weight should be close to 27.7 gm (which would be .667 oz pure silver)

Value in VG is $15.00

yours looks to be clipped in a few places and a lot of weak lettering so may struggle to grade even VG. but still worth over $10 for the silver.

How mad would you be if you saved a coin for 400 years and then found out it was only worth $15? Imagine if someone had invested that coin at 4% interest for 400 years instead, haha.

But would it have bought $15 worth of stuff 400 years ago?

Hard to say - on the one hand its not $15 worth of silver, but on the other hand silver traded at a better ratio to gold back then. Either way, you'd expect a coin like this to increase in value more just based on rarity.
